Houston Regional Group - News

by Jennifer Powis

Did you know that over the last 5 years, over $12.5 million dollars has come to Harris County to support local land acquisition or programming related to our state parks and the outdoors? Unfortunately, the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department's budget is under attack

and this year, during this legislative session, we need everyone to call their local representative and ask for more money for parks.

Representative Larson (R) out of San Antonio has filed three bills promoting greater state park funding and a better utilization of the Sporting Goods Tax towards our state parks. Now is the time to call your local representative and ask to meet with their staff on this issue. Tell them we need our state parks for multiple reasons and ask them to support funding the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department to the fullest extent possible.

For more information, please email me at I'm planning a short telephone conference to discuss our strategy to influence Austin and support state parks.
